Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have confirmed they are the parents of a baby boy, who arrived the same day Bardem garnered a best actor Oscar nomination for his role in Biutiful.
Cruz, 36, gave birth in Los Angeles, her spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday. No name was released.
“Penelope and Javier welcomed their first son into their family last week,” the spokeswoman said in a statement. “Both parents and baby are doing great.”
Bardem, 41, won a best supporting actor Academy Award in 2008 for his role as the killer in the Coen brothers drama No Country for Old Men. He also earned a best actor nomination in 2001 for Before Night Falls.
Cruz and Bardem both starred in the 2008 Woody Allen comedy Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which earned Cruz an Academy Award for best supporting actress. They also previously appeared together in the 1992 Spanish-language film Jamon, Jamon.
The couple married in July 2010 and announced the pregnancy in September.
